The Collection

Drew has over 12,500 print and non-print materials including books, magazines, videos, and CD ROMS. Selection guidelines established by MCPS are followed when materials are added to the collection. Title suggestions from staff, students, and parents are encouraged. Other sources for new materials include award winning booklists, professional journals such as Booklist and School Library Journal, and consults with other county media specialists.

Intellectual Freedom

"Freedom of access to information and ideas is essential for students and others to become critical thinkers, competent problem solvers, and life-long learners who contribute productively and ethically to society."
-Information Power, American Library Association, 1998.

This school media center will provide a variety of materials and resources necessary to accomplish the goals and objectives of Montgomery County Public Schools and the programs within the curriculum. As Media Specialist my goal is to insure that all students have the freedom to access information to help them develop into responsible citizens of our democratic society. Parents have the responsibility to help their children make selections but do not have the right to infringe on the freedom of access of other students.
