Code Purple Virtual Instruction Information

MCPS may transition to a CODE PURPLE virtual learning day when inclement weather is predicted, especially as part of a multi-day event such as a blizzard,  and when prior communication with families, students, and staff can take place. The decision to offer virtual learning will be announced by noon the day prior.

On days designated as a virtual learning day, Damascus Elementary School will begin instruction at 11:10 via Zoom.  Students will log into Zoom using the provided link by their homeroom teacher’s name.  Please use the Zoom links on this Zoom link document. Students will follow this virtual learning schedule from 11:10-3:50.  Please note that a lunch break is provided schoolwide from 12:00-1:00.

Preparation

We encourage you to prepare for this potential instruction by ensuring that your child has a device and internet access at home.  If your child does not have a Chromebook they use regularly for home use, please fill out this Chromebook request form, and the device will be given to the student at school to bring home.

If your family does not have internet connectivity, please contact the school to see what options are available in case of virtual instruction.

What to Expect

You can expect a letter to be sent electronically with the school schedule, zoom links, and technology support contact information to be sent home on the day before a virtual instruction day and again on the morning of a virtual instruction day.

FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE MEAL APPLICATIONS: Apply online NOW so that benefits will be in place when school starts! Families who meet certain federal income standards are eligible for free or reduced price meal benefits. All children use their MCPS ID number at the register so confidentiality is maintained and no child is overtly identified as receiving free or reduced-price meals. Only one application is needed for all students in a household. A new application must be completed for any family requesting assistance this school year. The online application is now open for families to submit applications. www.MySchoolApps.com
