We develop a positive, creative, and diverse learning environment, where technology is fully integrated into the curriculum. We are firmly committed to fostering respectful, responsible students who are reflective. As a result, staff and parents work together to create a climate of high expectations, ensuring the success of every student.

Background

Built in 1971 and situated on the outer edge of Montgomery County’s Downcounty area, Argyle’s evolution as a middle school has been both dramatic and emblematic of the development of MCPS. With the advent of the Middle School Magnet Consortium in 2005, Argyle’s enrollment area increased to include students from eight neighboring elementary schools, as well as a limited number of enrollment spaces for students beyond the Downcounty. The school’s focus is on technology and innovation, where all students take at least two elective courses within the technology magnet program. Current educational research supports the integration of technology throughout school curriculum in the following ways:   

 

  • Middle school students learn best when they are actively engaged with the content. Lessons that include technology applications provide teachers with ways to motivate students into becoming active, real-world learners. 
  • Computer-based strategies help students develop higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills. Participation in real-life applications included in technology-rich teaching environments promotes the ability to draw analogies, infer relationships, predict outcomes, and analyze data.

Our Goals

 

  • Increase the number of students taking advanced high school science, technology, and mathematics courses.
  • Increase the number of students from under-represented groups completing STEM degrees in higher education by building student interest and achievement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
  • Strengthen peer, family, and community support for developing 21st Century Learners.
  • Develop the next generation workforce who will be capable of contributing to the development of critical technologies and professional innovation.
  • Establish a pipeline of students, particularly women and members of minority groups, who will pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and business.
