Updated 2025-26 Attendance Policy

Regular, on-time attendance is important to student success and well-being.  Here is some more information about the importance of Attendance in the Early Grades.  As we move into the new school year, here are a few suggestions on how to ensure your child is coming to school consistently.

  • Send students to school if they are fever and vomit-free for 24 hours!
  • Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Consider calling a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
  • Try to schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.
  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, reach out to our School Counselor, Mrs. Cave to seek advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
  • Remember to set a regular bedtime and morning routine at the start of the new school year.
  • Our School Well-Being Team, in conjunction with MCPS, reviews tardies and absences every 2 weeks.  A  letter will be generated if your child is tardy or absent more than 10% of time.  You may also be asked to meet with the administrative team and the Pupil Personnel Worker (PPW).  Please note that student attendance does impact the school’s overall score on the MD State Report Card and our goal is to move from a 4-star rating to a 5-star rating!

We are here to help! Please reach out to us if there is anything we can do to support your family.  Please note, if a child is going to be absent for more than 10 days consecutive days, they will be withdrawn from the school and will need to be re-enrolled upon return.
