Transition Day: Monday, August 25

Transition Day is a new event in MCPS at the behest of Dr. Taylor scheduled for Monday, August 25th.  This new non-instructional day is designed to support students transitioning to new school levels or schools by fostering a sense of belonging and preparedness.  It is for students entering Grades K, 6, and 9…and any NEW students.

Westover will welcome incoming Kindergarten students all day, from 9:05-3:50 pm; bus transportation will be provided in the AM and PM for those students who are designated to ride a bus route.  Bus routes can be found in PARENTVUE beginning August 15th.  Older enrolled Westover students DO NOT attend Transition Day!

NEW students in grades 1-5 wishing to participate will be in attendance from 9:05-12:15 pm; with AM bus transportation available to those designated to ride.  New students in grades 1-5 will be picked up by a parent/guardian at 12:15 pm.  There will be NO bus available mid-day.

Kids After Hours (KAH) will provide on-site before and after care for students designated to participate in Transition Day.  More information will follow from KAH.

During the scheduled time, students will be engaged in:

  • Meeting staff throughout the building and learning about their roles
  • “Getting to Know You” activities
  • A scavenger hunt
  • A specials rotation; visiting, Art, Music and PE, and the Media Center
  • Center and content explorations

Lunch will be provided.

We look forward to welcoming all Wallaby students on Tuesday, August 26th for the first day of school.
