Our Challenges

In opera class we do challenges because we want to practice working together. The first challenge we did was a birthday challenge. We had to get in order by birthday. People were saying mean things and laughing and playing around. We were not participating. Some of us tried our hardest. We felt sad because people were messing it up. They were sabotaging it for us. We had to break into three groups. That helped us accomplish the challenge.

We did another challenge called the magic carpet. It was harder than the birthday order challenge. The goal was for everyone to stand on the carpet and flip it over to the other side without stepping off. If we stepped off, we would have to start all over. It was not fun at the beginning. People were not listening to those who were trying to give ideas and clarification. People were pushing and shoving. The teachers stopped us because some of us were being unsafe and we were stepping off. We talked about how we would accomplish the challenge and if we could. We knew we could do it. We broke into two groups. One group was close to making it work. The other needed more time. We still keep trying.
