Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! We are looking forward to welcoming your children to their online virtual classroom for their first day of school, Monday, August 31. We are excited to welcome our new Kindergarten students, students new to our school, and all of our returning students to their virtual classrooms next week. We are committed to providing our students a robust and dynamic online learning experience.

We are delighted to share with you that will be hosting a Virtual Sneak Peek on Friday, August 28th, where you will meet your child’s teacher.

On Wednesday, August 26th your child’s teacher will send a welcome letter to your email and your child’s school Gmail account (id#@mcpsmd.net). Your child’s classroom teacher will also provide you the Zoom link to get into their Virtual Sneak Peek.

Somerset ES Virtual Sneak Peak
Friday, August 28, 2020
Kindergarten and 1st Grade: 12:00-12:30 OR 12:30-1:00
2nd Grade and 3rd Grade: 1:00-1:30 OR 1:30-2:00
4th Grade and 5th Grade: 2:00-2:30 OR 2:30-3:00

Please know that throughout this year, our goal is to work closely with you to ensure that the
needs of your children are being met. Our virtual door is open to you, so feel free to contact us
throughout the year. By keeping the lines of communication open, we will be able to create an
effective learning community for all Somerset students.

Additionally, over the next few days, MCPS will be sending ParentVUE activation emails or letters in the mail if no email is on file. If parents have difficulty with activating accounts, or if they do not receive a communication, they should contact the help line at 240-740-7023.

ConnectED messages will be sent to all families beginning August 23rd with student login and password information. This information will be used to log in to StudentVUE, myMCPS Classroom, and other core MCPS platforms. Passwords will NOT be changed for the start of the year. Students can continue to use their passwords from last year. Teacher assignments will be available in StudentVUE and on myMCPS classroom on August 26th.

Lastly, if you were not able to pick up student instructional materials and a new chromebook on Thursday or Friday of this week, we will be offering one more pick up time on Wednesday, August 26th from 8:30-10:00 AM.

Best Wishes for a Fabulous 2020-2021 School Year,

Mrs. Morris & Mrs. Turner
