Dr. Sherilyn Moses, Principal

I would like to introduce myself as the principal of Dr. Ronald E. McNair Elementary School (Dr. REMES).

My journey to becoming the principal at Dr. REMES was built on a love of learning and a strong family foundation. I received my Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from Marymount University in Virginia. Beginning in 2000, I taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades as well as served in the role of instructional technology specialist in Kindergarten through 5th grade. In 2005, I joined Montgomery County Public Schools, where I taught at Gaithersburg Elementary School (GES). During my time at GES, I earned my administrative certification in Educational Leadership from Hood College. This provided me the opportunity to serve as an assistant principal at Fox Chapel Elementary School for three years. This time was followed by my assignment as principal intern at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School. My past experiences solidified my belief that the foundation of student growth is establishing relationships. I am committed to collaborating with all families to utilize our collective strengths, thereby ensuring all children reach their full potential.

My principal internship was abbreviated when, on February 1, 2014, I joined the Dr. REMES family as acting principal. In May of 2014, I was appointed as principal of Dr. Ronald E. McNair Elementary School. I am honored to be the principal of Dr. Ronald E. McNair Elementary School. Throughout my tenure as principal, I have remained committed to continuous professional growth and educational leadership. In 2025, I earned my Doctor of Education from Bowie State University, furthering my commitment to educational excellence. I am proud to work with a dedicated staff and community, continuing to provide all students with a positive educational experience through a high level instructional program.

I was born and raised in the US Virgin Islands, but as the daughter of two military parents, I had the opportunity to travel and live around the country. This developed an appreciation for various perspectives and cultures that sustains me today. I currently live in Frederick, Maryland, with my husband, Chris, and youngest daughter, Abigail. My oldest daughter, Shantelle, is a graduate of Shepherd University and UMBC. She currently works in Frederick and coaches cheerleading as a way to remain connected to the sport she loves. When not working, I enjoy the opportunity to read, spend time at the beach, or spend time with family.

As I lead and serve the Dr. McNair community, I do so with the following quote in mind. “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” ~ Aristotle  Our goal is to ensure the students of Dr. Ronald McNair Elementary School are compassionate, independent, lifelong learners.

My goal is to continue to provide the highest quality educational program for your child(ren). Each family plays a vital role in helping to create a positive atmosphere to support the success of our school. I look forward to working with each of you throughout the school year.

Thank you in advance for your support as we work to make this another dynamic year for all of our children.

Mrs. Rebecca Mason, Assistant Principal

I am delighted to return to the Dr. REMES team this year as assistant principal.

My drive and motivation to work in the education field is fueled by my belief that every child has a right to a high-quality education. My journey began with intentions to work on educational initiatives from the policy/governmental side. I received a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Georgia and a Master of Education degree in School Policy and Leadership from American University. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, I moved to Washington, D.C. to work at the U.S. Department of Education. Before too long, it became clear to me that I needed to work on the “front lines” of education, in a school setting, where I could interact directly with students and families.

This led me to discover the magic of teaching elementary school students. In D.C. I taught grades 1, 2 and 3 before becoming an instructional coach and an assistant principal. Getting to watch students’ “aha” moments of discovery, as well as their unique strengths and interests, keeps me passionate about this role year after year. Elementary schools are so special because they create deep roots within the community - we are a place of gathering, fun, growth, and learning. I am grateful to continue as part of the Dr. REMES family, and I thank you all for being such an integral part of what makes our school extraordinary.

I currently live in Damascus, MD, with my husband, Sam, our wonderful son, William, and our beloved dog, Sadie. When I’m not working, I love to spend time outdoors, hiking or biking. As a resident of Montgomery County, I’ve enjoyed exploring many parks, trails, and farmer’s markets with my family.

I believe in continuous improvement at all levels and look forward to learning and growing with you all again this school year. Because you are your child’s first and most important teacher, I am eager to maintain and strengthen our lines of communication and partnership to best support your child’s needs. I am thankful for the continued opportunity to support teachers and education leaders at Dr. REMES this year. I know it will be another amazing school year, full of joyous and rigorous learning.
