World Languages
Resource Teacher:

Fernanda Chaney
The World Languages Department offers courses in Spanish, French, and American Sign Language (ASL). Our program is designed to develop students' proficiency in communication through meaningful, real-world language use. Students engage in interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational tasks that emphasize speaking, listening, reading, and writing in the target language. Through collaborative learning, authentic resources, and culturally relevant experiences, students build the confidence and skills to communicate effectively across cultures. Our goal is to prepare students to become confident, culturally competent communicators who are ready to engage in an increasingly interconnected world. Students who demonstrate proficiency in English and another language may also earn the Maryland Seal of Biliteracy, a prestigious recognition of bilingualism that appears on their high school diploma.
