Spanish Immersion Program
Description of Program
At RCF, we are committed to providing a high-quality immersion education. Rock Creek Forest (RCF) offers a full-immersion program for students in grades K-5. It is the first Spanish immersion school in the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) system, established in 1977.
We attract students not only from the local neighborhood but also from all over the county. The K-5 immersion program follows the same curriculum as other Montgomery County Public Schools, with Spanish serving as the medium through which students learn the curriculum.
In classrooms from kindergarten through grade three, Spanish is the sole language of instruction. In grades four and five, students begin learning to write in English as preparation for middle school. Special subjects such as art, music, and physical education are also taught in English. Spanish immersion kindergarten classes have 24 students each, while grades one and two have 25 students per class. Grade three has 26 students per class. For grades four and five, class sizes can increase to up to 30 students.
