Extra Curricular Activities
Announcement Team - Ms. Hendrix The morning news team consists of a group of students that do the morning news announcements.
Ambassadors - Ms. Beru Paw Pride Ambassadors are students from all three grade levels nominated by staff for demonstrating our BCMS paw pride characteristics. Ambassadors earn student service learning (SSL) hours for supporting school wide events such as back to school night, career day, parent teacher conferences and supporting new students become acclimated to our school culture. Ambassadors are selected at the beginning of each school year.
AV Club - Ms. Justice and Ms. Palmer We will learn to care for and use Audio Visual equipment. Video record plays, shows and special programs. Set-up and break down speakers and microphones for school programs and performances. Learn to import, export and edit taped videos and pictures. Student Service Hours may be given for some events.
Be a Friend First Group (BFF) -Ms. Showman The BFF Group is for 6th grade students and is co-facilitated by The Girls Scouts and BCMS counselors and discusses how to help others with peer issues, how to deal with mean girls and what it means to be a better friend.
Book Wars - Ms. Justice and Ms. C. Johnson
Cheerleading - The BCMS Cheer Team runs from Fall to Spring performing at select boys' and girls' basketball games as well as scheduled school events such as Town Halls and Pep Rallies. Tryouts are once every Fall where all grades are encouraged to come and participate! Our BCMS Cheer Team works hard, performing intermediate to advanced stunt work, dances, cheers, tumbling, and jumps that well prepare those interested for high school cheerleading. We strive to put on excellent performances aimed to encourage school spirit and pride in a safe and fun atmosphere!
Chess & Board Games -Ms. Bet Students gather to play a variety of different board games from classics like Othello, Life, Monopoly, Scrabble, Uno, chess to modern games like Harry Potter Trivia, Cranium Cadoo, Air Hockey. Students work on social skills, problem solving, and good sportsmanship
Fitness/Weight Club- Ms. Tolley This club is for students in all grade levels, who are interested in and committed to improving their fitness levels. It is an extension of our Phys. Ed. curriculum and will engage students in individual and group exercises. Each student will work on personal fitness goals, to include cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance. Students will learn basic weight training and fitness concepts while learning to monitor their progress.
Flag Football - Mr. Blount
Lacrosse - Mr. Abrams This is an after-school lacrosse club for the students here at BCMS where students will learn the basics about lacrosse. There will be full equipment for the players, including a stick, helmet, chest pads, arm pads and gloves which they may borrow each session. They will be learning the fundamental skills of throwing, catching, defense play, ground balls, and shooting. This club will be only instructional; we will not be playing against any other schools or clubs.
Musical - Ms. Fitzharris - The annual school musical is an all-inclusive production with acting, singing, dancing, tech, stage crew, costumes, props, etc. Students who are eligible are encouraged to participate regardless of their enrollment in school music courses. Auditions occur in the fall with rehearsals continuing through the winter up to the spring performance in March or April. Please note, however, that the rehearsals run later in the evening than the activity buses and students must have alternative transportation options in order to participate. Further information will be available in late October; keep your ears out for an announcement!
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) - Ms. Beru Membership in the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a middle school student. Our chapter strives to give practical meaning to the Society's standards of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.
Newspaper Club - Ms. De Jesus The Newspaper Club gives the students the opportunity to express themselves in a respectful, thoughtful and inclusive way. It also provides students with an opportunity to learn, enhance or refine skills like writing, editing, photographing and/or cartooning, in a relevant and appropriate manner.
Peer2Peer Tutoring - Ms. Beru Open to all grade level students seeking support in all subject areas. Meets every Wednesday after school. Students sign up in the counseling office. Sign up is on a first come first serve basis.
Rubik's Cube Club - Ms. Roland Students will learn how to solve the Rubik's Cube and prepare for local and regional competitions with a team of other like-minded Briggs Chaney students. Learning how to solve the cube, improving your times and solving as a team are the goal of this group, as we prepare to compete against other local, regional and possibly national teams.
Safe Schools Ambassadors - Ms. Showman Safe School Ambassadors work to create a bully-free school environment and create projects helping to spread inclusion and kindness.
Sign Language Club - Ms. June Sign Language club meets to learn about the Deaf community, culture, and language. Students learn enough signs to be able to have basic knowledge, and hopefully be able to have a small conversation with the Deaf.

Spirit Squad - Ms. English Briggs Chaney Middle School Spirit Squad is a co-ed, multi-grade level, after -school activity that welcomes students to promote school spirit through chants and dance with the use of poms and dance ribbons as well as color guard flag and rifle spinning at select BCMS events. This activity runs from October to May. This season's performances include: 1 boys home basketball game, 1 girls home basketball game, 6th, 7th and 8th grade town halls, the BCMS Variety Show, Staff verses Students basketball game and Pacific Islander Heritage Night.
STEM Club - Ms. D. Paige The STEM Next! after-school program integrates CODING, ROBOTICS, LEADERSHIP, SCIENCE, and MATHEMATICS to provide a cutting edge, 21st century blend of kinesthetic and digital learning. The extended learning opportunity utilizes an innovative instructional model to provide students with rich, rigor filled scholastic experiences that challenge each student to demonstrate mastery of the common core and essential curricular concepts, while utilizing said skills to solve real-world problems in a technology enriched environment outside of the classroom throughout the year.
Student Government Association (SGA) - Ms. Showman The SGA supports Briggs Chaney with community service projects, fundraising activities, student leadership opportunities, and school wide pride!
Tennis - Ms. Bet Students learn basic skills, rules, & score keeping of tennis. We practice in singles and doubles squads. No experience necessary.
Warriors of Kindness - Ms. McCabe The Warriors for Kindness is a new group at BCMS. It is a club to promote unity and inclusiveness for all students and to promote awareness of the needs of kids of all races, sexual orientation, etc. The focus of the group is on education for staff and the school community as well as to promote compassion and kindness amongst our staff and students especially for disenfranchised youth.
- After-school activities run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 3:15 pm – 4:30 pm.
- Any student not under the direct supervision of an adult in the building must exit the building by 3:15 pm.
- If a student exits the building, they are not to return back to the building.
- After-school buses are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for students participating in a sponsored after-school activity.
- As a reminder, if you are picking up your student, please do not park in the bus lanes between 2:50 pm and 4:40 pm Tuesday-Thursday.
