About Our School

Weller Road Elementary School is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. The school was named for the road it is to be found on. Weller Road is part of the Wheaton cluster in the Downcounty Consortium. The school serves Pre-kindergarten/ Headstart to fifth grade students. Read our;School Newsletter;for more information.

The Weller Road community will work together to provide a quality education promoting social and emotional growth, as our students work towards becoming successful, contributing members of a global society.

Mission Statement

We, the Weller Road staff, will:

  • Implement current innovative teaching practices relative to each student’s needs.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and positive environment where each student will receive respect, encouragement, and be provided opportunities for success.
  • Promote social and emotional growth.
  • Motivate each student to reach academic success.

School Improvement Plan

Our School Improvement Plan (SIP) was completed for the school year with input from parents, staff, and administrators. The SIP is now available to parents and the community. In accordance with Title I of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB Act), parents who have concerns, need further clarification, or require additional information about the SIP may send written comments to the school principal. Written comments will be kept on file at the school and discussed during SIP review meetings throughout the year.

Title 1

Title I is part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The legislation provides federal funds to help students in schools with high economic needs achieve high standards. The specific objective of the Title I program is to enable all students to meet state and local student performance standard goals set by the Maryland State Department of Education.

Title I schools receive many services including:

  • Technical assistance from an instructional specialist on a consistent basis
  • Additional teaching professionals and/or paraeducators
  • Extended Learning Opportunities
    • Summer Adventures in Learning
    • Extended Day Programs
  • Family Involvement funds

Complaint Policy

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has a complaint policy that provides parents and community members with a process to register their concerns.; The policy is posted on the;Division of Title I Programs;(DTP) and the MCPS website at http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/;

MCPS has a procedure and form for parents and community members to follow when registering a complaint.; These procedures can also be found on the;DTP;and the;MCPS;website.

Right to Request Information

The federal legislation that establishes Title I regulations is known as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001(NCLB Act). The NCLB Act requires the Montgomery County Public Schools to inform you that you have the right to request information about the professional certification qualifications of your child's teacher, substitute teacher, or paraeducator (formerly titled instructional assistant).;

If you wish to request certification information about your child's teacher, paraeducator, or long- .term substitute teacher, please submit a written request to the principal at your school. Your written request may include information about the following qualifications: .

  • Degree status and subject area of certification
  • State of Maryland certification status, including conditional certification status
  • Qualifications of paraeducators or long-term substitute teachers who may be working with your student

Your request will be forwarded to the Office of Human Resources, and you will receive a written response from them within 30 business days.;
