There are three important components to our Character education at WGES.

Project ROAR

coupons

A school wide positive behavior intervention where students earn coupons for showing respect, responsibility, and that they are ready to learn! When they earn a ticket their name is entered into a weekly drawing to have lunch on the stage.  When a student earns 10 tickets they earn a color coupon that will be displayed in the hall!

Project Wisdom
Daily announcements are shared that give the students something to think about each day.  Each day they are reminded to “Make it a great day … or not.  The choice is yours!” This is part of a nationwide program.

Character Counts
This is also a nationwide program, that teaches students about the six pillars of Character; Trustworthiness, Respect Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. At WGES we focus on one of the six pillars each month.

Service List
We have several programs that are available to families that meet the requirements for Free or Reduced Meals:

•We have backpacks and school supplies available throughout the year.
•A small selection of costumes are available for students to use during Halloween celebrations.
•Beginning in October we identify families for holiday food and gifts.
•We have bags of groceries that can be picked up in December.
•We have extra valentines for students to give to their friends.
•In addition we have food available throughout the year for emergency needs.

If your family is  interested in any of these programs you need to contact Anne Moran. 301-840-7120.

We are also pleased to have a Linkages to Learning site at our school. If you need more support your family can work with the LTL staff on organization of the home and bills, mental health therapy, finding childcare, affordable housing, ESOL classes, and preparing for work.
