Open Library for Students: 9:00-9:10 AM Daily

Students may visit the media center before school during Open Library or anytime during the school day with permission from the classroom teacher.

We encourage children to visit often!

Parent Hours in the Media Center EVERY DAY!!

The Flora M. Singer Media Center is excited to provide parent accounts for parents to borrow items from the media center to enjoy with their children. 

Who: All parents and guardians of Flora M. Singer Elementary Students 

When: EVERY DAY from 9:00-3:45 beginning October 1, 2015 

Where to enter: Parents should enter the school via the main office and sign in to get a visitor badge. 

How: Parents must complete an application (available below or from the media center) and return it to Ms. Seres, Media Specialist, to receive a parent account. 

What: The Media center has over 16,000 items for circulation. Parents may borrow 5 items at a time. The collection includes: 

  • Picture Books, Fiction Chapter books, and Nonfiction books 
  • Spanish and Bilingual books 
  • Emergent or Beginning Reader books 
  • Family Literacy kits (2 books with activities to do with your child) 
  • Audio books on CD and Playaway 
  • Educational DVDs

Media Center Mission and Vision: 

Our mission is to provide students and staff with access to books, technology, ideas, information, and other learning opportunities.

We strive to instill a love of learning and literature, facilitate access to information, and help media center patrons become effective users of information.

We will do this by:

  • Acquiring, promoting, and sharing high-quality books and literature
  • Managing and teaching about ways to access information
  • Embedding and integrating the information literacy standards with the classroom curriculum to teach information literacy at all grade levels


Circulation Guidelines:  

  • Kindergarten & Grade 1 are allowed to check out 1 book.
  • Grade 2 is allowed to check out 2 books.
  • Grades 3 - 5 are allowed to check out 3 books.

Magazines and graphic novels may be checked out one at a time by students in grades 2-5.

Playaways and CDs may be checked out by Grade 3-5 students with signed parent permission.

Books are due 2 weeks from the day they are checked out. Students may renew books if they have not finished reading their books by the due date. Students are encouraged to bring back their books as soon as they are finished reading them so that others may enjoy them. No fines will be incurred for overdue books, but students are responsible for paying for lost or books damaged beyond repair.

Flora Singer has many resources available for students to use for research. Each online resource can be accessed in school or at home by clicking on the images below. Login and password information for home use is available from classroom teachers.
