Hey Huskies! On Friday, February 23rd, the SGA will be hosting its second dance of the year and it will begin right when the school day ends! During the dance, there will be a DJ for the dance floor and snacks available for purchase. Tickets to the dance are $5.00 and need to be purchased during lunches TODAY, Tuesday, February 20th, and Wednesday, February 21st. They will not be sold the day of the dance. Also, for those who need transportation home, activity busses will be provided at 5:30pm when the dance ends. REMEMBER: Ticket sales start TODAY, so get yours!

Attention 7th graders: Boys and girls soccer athletes who want to try out will meet with your coaches next Wednesday to get expectations, paperwork and to answer any questions. You may also do some running. If you have not had a physical by your doctor over the past two years, have your parents schedule a physical NOW, you can NOT play or try-out without it! Tryouts begin March 4.

Book Bites is today in the LMC during lunch. Students who signed up will receive a pass by 3rd period, and must bring that pass to the LMC. We'll hear from some of the amazing oratorical contest participants, read and discuss poems, and celebrate African-American history month. See you then!

Interested in Model United Nations Club but want to know more before the next training on Wednesday? An information meeting will be held on Tuesday Feb 20 during both 6th grade and 7th grade lunches in room 415. Stop by Señora Hodges' room to learn what Model United Nations is all about! Attention intramural athletes: The weight room will be open today for a circuit workout with Ms. Roddy. If you want to work on your cardio, muscular strength, and endurance – come try it out. Open to all levels of fitness. We will have exercises for everyone. See you there.

Larry Smith is a news anchors for Good Morning Washington, ABC7/WJLA News Channel 8. Born in Illinois, Larry used to pretend that he was a sports caster at the early age of 13. He would practice by recording himself asking questions to famous athletes. He never dreamed that this would lead him to a career as a sportscaster on CNN and now serving the Washington DC community on Good Morning Washington. Tonight, Larry Smith is our guest emcee for the Inagural Oratorical Contest. Come out and meet Larry and support our orators as they speak about Warriors of Change.

Attention Oratorical Contest Students, We will have second dress rehearsal on Wednesday, February 14th from 3:15-4:30 in the cafeteria. If you are unable to attend, please see Ms. Fitzgerald in Room 249.

Silver Creek Middle School is hosting its first ever oratorical contest on Thursday, February 15th from 6:30-8:30pm. SCMS families are welcome to attend and show their support for our orators as they display their principled and caring performances on stage. The night will include special guests, surprise performances, and prizes awarded to our top Husky Warriors for Change!

Model United Nations will hold it's first meeting of the spring semester TODAY in room 415 with Sra. Hodges.

Congrats to the Lady Huskies on an amazing first season of basketball! All of the girls’ worked hard throughout the season and played even harder! Westland was able to steal a win away, but not without the huskies being able to out score Westland 11 to 4 in the fourth quarter. Coach Roddy is proud of you! Side note – if you still have your jersey please return them to Ms. Roddy ASAP – classroom 455.

Thanks to all students who participated in our lunchtime makerspace for the Lunar New Year. If you'd like to finish your lantern today, and learn more about Chinese New Year during lunch, sign out a pass in the cafe and come on up for more!

Don't forget to sign up on the LMC website for this Friday's Book Bites, celebrating African-American history month. We'll be hearing our oratorical contest winners and poetry from Langston Hughes, and more!

The Honorable Donine Carrington is the first African American female appointed to the Charles County bench. She has served as a child advocate by prosecuting individuals who have caused harm to children in Prince George's County for the past 13 years. She is passionate about her work as a judge and looks forward to serving the residence of Charles County by promoting rule of law. She considers herself a warrior for change because she is "self motivated". She believes "we are all born with everything we need to make this earth a better place and being of service to others is a responsibility that we all have in order to be agents of change.

The Silver Creek Mathcounts team competed in a tough series of competitions on Saturday. William Borlase, Jack Deye, Julia Gelfond, and Ting Ting Li all had a strong showing. The Mathcounts team put in a lot of work – if you see William, Jack, Julia or Ting Ting, congratulate them on a job well done!

Attention Silver Creek Fans: Our girls basketball team play their final game today vs Westland. The game starts at 3:20. Our Poms Squad will also be performing at half time. Students will line up in the lobby at the door after school until the doors open after set-up. Students will not need to sign in, but will remain in the gym until activity buses arrive to be dismissed. We encourage you to go support your Lady Huskies and Poms Squad today!

Attention Poms: Please report to Ms. Mannheimer's class, room 243, directly after 7th period. Please be changed and ready to perform. We will head down to the gym at 3:10.

A reminder from the LMC Makerspace. The Makerspace is open during lunch and before school, but all Huskies must follow our rules so all students can enjoy a great experience. Makespace users, take a moment to review our rules this week, and the Makerspace will reopen next week so you can prove you can use it safely, collaboratively, and respectfully!
