National Academy of Hospitality and Tourism

14 AOHT Grad The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism helps students chart career paths in one of the world’s largest industries, from hotel and event management to sports and entertainment, and includes the study of geography, economics, and world cultures.

This program introduces students to the hospitality and tourism industry through real world projects, field trips, guest speakers, and opportunities to work in the hospitality field. It's problem and project based, keeping students active through:

  • Exploring the hospitality industry both in school and outside of school (ex: behind the scenes tour of a cruise ship, guided tour of the business and operations of a major high end hotel, internships with hotels and other Montgomery County hospitality companies)
  • Planning and running a variety of events including those sponsored by Sherwood and MCPS.

Graduates of the NAF AOHT program have a special graduation recognition night, this year hosted at the Sandy Spring Museum. They are recognized by their teachers and industry representatives from companies like Marriott, Choice Hotels, and others for their work in this field. Scholarships and grants are given by these companies as well.
