Medical Careers

What is it?

The Medical Careers program provides students with certified health care skills that enable them to train and work along with health care professionals in various settings. Instruction focuses on anatomy, physiology, related-disease conditions, medical terminology, patient care skills, and current health care issues. Other areas of emphasis include body mechanics, vital signs, principals of infection control, and care of the hospitalized.

What do they do?

Students in the program study in the classroom for the first semester, learning the principles and concepts that will be applied in second semester internships. Students spend a portion of the second semester at Friends Nursing home, working with patients, nurses and GNA's to care for residents. Next they serve as interns in various units of Montgomery General Hospital. Internships provide valuable experiences that help students make decisions about college majors and career options.
