Dr. Jamie Virga, Principal
Welcome to the Seven Locks
Elementary School website! I am very excited to be the principal of this wonderful school. It is an amazing privilege to work with the
Seven Locks staff, parents, and community as we strive together to provide all
of our students with a vibrant learning environment that is both nurturing and
challenging. During 2016-2017, we will increase our efforts to
Know Each Student. Plan for Each Student. Ensure Learning for Each Student.
This year, we are also inspiring our work by saying,
"Imagine What We Can Build Together"
because we believe that when Seven Locks staff, parents, and community members work in collaboration, we can create a wonderful place for all students to learn.
I have been an educator for over
30 years. I started my career in
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) as a general music teacher at S.
Christa McAuliffe Elementary. After 11 years in the classroom, I moved into
school administration, serving at Highland Elementary (assistant principal)
and Stonegate Elementary (principal intern).
In 1997, I was appointed principal of Viers Mill Elementary School. Working with a dedicated staff and a support
parent community, we were able to achieve high levels of learning for all
students. As a result, Viers Mill was
named a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2005.
I have also served MCPS in
several central office leadership positions, including director of the
Professional Learning Communities Institute and associate superintendent for
organizational development. For the last
five years, I served as lead consulting principal. In this position, I worked
as a coach and mentor to first-year principals, principal interns, principals
who changed levels, and administrators who needed to improve their
performance. This work gave me the
opportunity to work in dozens of MCPS schools throughout the county, including
elementary, middle, and high schools. I
am very excited to be back in the school principal role. I look forward to
taking all that I have learned and applying it to work here to benefit the
students of Seven Locks.
I am a life-long musician and I
play piano and guitar. I have kept my
piano skills sharp by accompanying a teen choir for the past ten years. I occasionally perform with a band, playing
keyboards and singing. I love reading, word games, Washington area sports
teams, movies, and cooking/grilling food for friends and family. My three
children all graduated from MCPS schools. My wife Andrea, who passed away two years ago, was a teacher and special educator in MCPS for over 25 years. I am committed to making sure our school is a
great place for staff to work and an excellent place for students to learn.
I look forward to seeing and talking with all
students and parents during this school year. Please check this website and the Seven Locks PTA website, as well as the Seven Locks Foundation website, for more information about upcoming events and programs. See you soon!!
