Welcome to Kindergarten @ Sequoyah Elementary2011-2012
We are looking forward to a fun and productive school year with you and your children! We understand that, whether this is your first child or fifth, kindergarten is a milestone filled with joy and maybe a little bit of sorrow.
Kindergarten has changed a lot in the past few years. In addition to being a full-day program, there is a strong emphasis on academics. Your children will need to come to school rested and ready to learn. Please refer to the Kindergarten Benchmarks for more specifics.

Meet the Kindergarten Teachers
Ms. Gepford: I grew up in Montgomery County, graduated from Springbrook High School and received my Bachelor’s in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from the University of Maryland. After graduation, I taught first grade in MCPS (Kemp Mill) for four years, moved to Charleston, S.C. and became a “stay at home mom”; raising my two children Andrew and Laura. I returned to Maryland and teaching in the 1990’s; working at Westover, Stonegate and eventually Sequoyah in 2001. For the past two years, I have been teaching Kindergarten at Sargent Shriver. I am excited to be coming back “home” to Sequoyah this year to join my teammates in Kindergarten. In my free time, I enjoy relaxing on the gulf beaches in Florida, attending theatre performances in New York City and spending time with my friends and family.
Mrs. Mills:
Mrs. Vielhaber: Born and raised in Montgomery County, I graduated from John F. Kennedy High School and the University of Maryland. I have been teaching kindergarten at Sequoyah since the school opened in 1990. I am married and have 2 teenage daughters. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Mrs. Story: My name is Tris Story and I am a Special Education Para-Educator working in Kindergarten this year. I have been a Para-Educator in Montgomery County for 12 years and this is my 11th year here at Sequoyah. I was born and raised in Maryland. I am married with five children, one grandson, and a chocolate lab. named Hershey. I love to read at my beach house in North Carolina where I spend my summers and most holidaysJ
