2017 - 2018 Information

  • MCPS has eliminated the Extra Curricular Activity Fees starting with the 2017 - 2018 school year so students will no longer have to pay to participate in sports or extra-curricular activities

    • Students in 7th and 8th grade can participate on our sports teams.  (Fall- Softball and Cross Country, Winter- Basketball, Spring- Soccer)
    • Students need to have had a physical within two years

New Student Orientation

  • WHAT: An opportunity to check out Poole MS, meet our staff, try out lockers, and get to meet new peers!
  • WHO: Open to all incoming 6th graders and any new 7th or 8th graders
  • WHEN: Thursday, August 31st from 7:55 a.m. until 11:40 a.m. (arrive by 7:45 a.m.)
  • HOW: This is a practice run of your first day with us.  Come to school the way you plan to during the year (walk, car, bus) and get here by 7:45 a.m., activities start at 7:55 a.m.
 

6th Grade Summer Orientation

  • What: A brief orientation for incoming 6th grade students designed to help them transition to middle school.
  • Who: Incoming 6th grade students
  • When: August 9th- There are two sessions, 8:00 - 10:00 or 12:00 - 2:00.  Students only need to go to one session.  There is no need to RSVP, just show up for the session that best works for you!
  • How: There is NO transportation provided for this event.
 

6th Grade Mixer & Outdoor Ed Parent Meetings

6th Grade Mixer- August 31, 2017, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.     
Outdoor Education Parent Meeting- August 31, 2017, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Outdoor Education Parent Meeting- September 6, 2017, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
  • Incoming 6th grade students are invited to our 6th Grade Mixer and Social.  It will be held in the evening on August 31st.  There will be pizza, drinks, a DJ and tons of fun!  Come meet your new classmates and get ready for a great year.
  • There will be parent meetings about Outdoor Education on August 31, 2017 or September 6, 2017, both start at 6:00 p.m. in the media center.  Parents will get information about outdoor education preparation and planning.  Parents only need to attend one outdoor education meeting.  Parents who attended the meeting held at John Poole Middle School in June do not needThis is the same information that was shared at the June meeting and if parents attended the June meeting they do not need to attend this meeting.
 

Back to School Night

  • John Poole Middle School will host our Back to School Night on Thursday, September 14, 2017.  The evening will start with a general meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the main gym.  Parents will be given the opportunity to visit each of their children's classrooms and hear about the classrooms and content that will be covered throughout the year.
 

6th Grade Outdoor Education **17-18 Information**

Information About Outdoor Education for 6th Grade      
  • Outdoor Education will be September 18, 19, and 20, 2017
  • Information Packet for Parents (Including all required forms)

      •  Parents only need to attend one, if you attended the meeting in June you are set!  Additional opportunities will be held on August 31st from 6-7 p.m. and September 6th from 6-7 p.m.   
       
     
  • Cost- $86.00.

6th grade students will be going to outdoor education on September 18, 19, and 20th, all of the information is above.
    

Grade 7

7th grade students will be going to Medieval Times on October 20, 2017
 

Grade 8

8th grade students will be going to the Newseum on September 22, 2017
