Administrative Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibility for managing an effective school requires the participation and commitment of every person on the staff. Responsibilities and duties may vary. What must be and what cannot vary is the commitment to a common end -- to have the best school possible. In this section on duties and responsibilities, we begin with a delineation of the role each of us can be expected to play in the achievement of that common goal.

General Administrative Team Responsibilities

  • Implement all policies and procedures as established by the Board of Education  
  • Provide instructional leadership as a shared responsibility with other staff 
  • Establish effective communication with parents and others in the community that increases their understanding of school programs and problems and enlists their support in helping the school meet better its charge  
  • Supervise the maintenance of building and grounds 
  • Coordinate and supervise student activities before, during and after school 
  • Maintain accurate records and insuring timely completion of required reports 
  • Conduct orientation for new staff and incoming students 
  • Plan and conduct staff in-service programs 
  • Oversee the organization and implementation of the school’s student academic assistance programs  
  • Provide for the health and safety of staff and students  
  • Coordinate the use of pupil services and other area and central support staff  
  • Serve as a liaison to staff teams, departments, and committees 
  • Analyze data and coordinate efforts to improve test scores and increase student academic achievement  
  • Select, assign, supervise and evaluate all staff  
  • Work with the staff to promote a school atmosphere that is conducive to learning and promote positive social interaction  
  • Counsel with students and their parents as a means of preventing and/or resolving learning problems and behavioral problems that interfere with the individual’s and group’s freedom to learn and/or threatens the safety and well-being of other members of the school community
