Program Objectives

JROTC is designed to teach High School students the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling in them self-esteem, teamwork, and self discipline. This is reflected in in its mission statement, “To motivate young people to be better citizens”. It does not involve any military obligation; most cadets do not join the military. The JROTC program is a resume enhancer, employers and college admissions counselors respect the goals of the program.

Academy Highlights

 

  • An approved elective course earning graduation credit and 5 hours of service learning per semester  HROTC1 
  • Magruder JROTC is an “Honor Unit with Distinction”
  • The JROTC Senior Instructor can directly nominate cadets to the national military academies
  • Cadets going to college receive favorable consideration in the award of JROTC scholarships
  • Cadets finishing two or more years can enter the military with accelerated promotions
  • Recognition Of Academy status at Graduation
  • The course is taken during the school day: it is not an extra-curricular activity
  • The JROTC requires only a one semester commitment but many students spend up to four years in the program
  • It is prohibited from teaching anything dealing with combatJROTC4 
  • Cadets are issued uniforms free of charge
  • JROTC has extra curricular activities including Color Guard, Drill Team and Raider Team

  • Have an excellent attendance record

Application Process

Students should complete the application form and submit to Ms. Nataro. Students must inform their counselor of their application to the academy.
