Literacy Strategy #2:

Rainbow Words

Introduction/Purpose: 

The purpose the Rainbow Words Activity is to have students practice spelling and writing words. 

Materials Needed:

  • Paper (or click a link and print practice paper with directions at the top?)
  • Pencil
  • Assortment of crayons or markers
  • Word Wall Word List or Spelling Word List

Steps:

  1. Practice saying the word aloud and spelling the word letter by letter
  2. As you spell the word a second time, write each letter with a pencil
  3. Choose a colored crayon or marker and trace over each letter again as you spell the word aloud
  4. Repeat the same process with as many colors as you would like
