Welcome to East Silver Spring Elementary School

East Silver Spring Elementary School East Silver Spring Elementary School was originally built in 1927, which makes it one of Montgomery County's oldest schools. In fact, in 1992, during Silver Spring's Sesquicentennial, ESS received a commendation from the county for its long and fruitful service to the community.

The original building was severely damaged by fire but was rebuilt and modernized in 1979. An additional wing was added in 1987 and two new wings were completed in August 2010.

International Night

 Bring your family on Friday, Nov. 17 to International Night! The evening will begin with a potluck and a Jr. Chef competition in the gym, followed by a musical performance, and ending with a dance party in the all purpose room. The PTA will be selling pizza and water. Click here for more information. 

Parent Teacher Conferences

Please be sure you have signed up for a parent teacher conference. On November 7th, 2017, third grade teacher Mr. Weerts presented to the PTA about how to have an effective parent teacher conference to begin the dialogue about your child’s progress this school year. Effective communication between parents and teachers is critical in building a collaborative relationship that is best for children’s learning. Click here for the slide presentation.

Gifted and Talented (GT)Town Hall

Our first GT Town Hall meeting was held in October. Ms. Kurshanna Johnson from AEI (Accelerated and Enriched Instruction) shared information about county programs and programs that are embedded in the curriculum at the local school level. Click here for the documents that were shared at the meeting. The next meeting will be December 5th at 9:30 am and 5:30 pm to accommodate all of our families. The focus will be "Enrichment for All in Reading". Ms. Bezold, our Reading Specialist, will present along with a county level supervisor.
