Dear parents of 4th and 5th graders:

The purpose of this letter is to inform you about staffing updates for the 4th and 5th grades for the 2017-2018 school year and to share with you our plan to ensure the overall success of your student.

Due to low enrollment in 4th and 5th grades, DuFief was allocated 3 full-time teachers to support students in these two grades.  However, additional DuFief staff will be used to support students in order to have single grade level classes for all 4th and 5th grade students during all academic subjects.

Below is our plan for daily instruction and will outline how we will use our staffing to support your student.

9:10 - 10:20        Math

Teachers:  Math 4 Mrs. Assaf, Math ⅘ Mr. Yates, Math 5 Ms. Torres, Math ⅚ Mrs. Nass

10:20 - 11:10      Science/Social Studies

Teachers:  4th grade, Ms. Torres and Mr. Yates; 5th grade, Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Nass

11:15 - 12:05      Specials and chorus

Students will travel to specials as a single grade level

12:05 - 1:15        Recess/lunch

1:15 - 3:15           Reading/writing

Teachers:  4th grade, Ms. Torres and Mr. Yates; 5th grade, Ms. Carroll and Mrs. Nass

In addition, all students will be assigned a homeroom teacher.  For 4th and 5th graders the homeroom class will only be where students unpack each morning and dismiss from in the afternoon.  There will be three homeroom classes; Mrs. Nass (5th graders), Ms. Torres (all math 5 students and half of math 4 students), and Mr. Yates, remaining 4th graders).

I will be holding a parent meeting here at DuFief to share this instructional plan in more detail and to answer any questions that you have. The meeting will take place on Thursday, August 17 at 6:00 in the media center.

Similar to other grade levels, you will find out your child’s teacher(s) the week prior to the start of school. Please feel free to contact me at DuFief should you have any questions about how we will best support your student next year.
