Hoover Middle School Career Day

On May 31, 2018, Hoover Middle School will be having its annual Career Day. We are looking to have representation from a variety of careers and career fields. Please consider sharing your experience and expertise with our students. The Career Day programming will take place 12:30-3:00. Black Rocket April 21, 2018

Black Rocket programs offered through Montgomery College provide unique enrichment and educational offerings to children and young adults in Creative Sciences, Digital Arts, and Leadership. Each course emphasizes self-empowerment, cognitive reasoning, and divergent thinking through hands-on learning. The program on April 21st is designed for students in grades 3 – 6 and costs $95 per student. The day’s courses include Robotics 101, New! Advanced Robotics, Code Breaking, Digital Animation, Minecraft Engineering, Minecraft World Builder, and Video Game design.  A limited number of scholarships are available.

Outdoor Education Parent Meeting

Dear Sixth Grade Parents and Guardians,  The Sixth Grade Parent/Guardian Outdoor Education Program will be held in the lunchroom here at Hoover Middle School from 6:30 p.m. to 7 :30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.  (snow date Feb. 1, 2018) Sixth grade parents/guardians should make every effort to attend this meeting  as important program information will be shared, including the academic program goals, packing list and procedures, the schedule, forms and the process for chaperoning.  Additionally, our school nurse, Amy Fass RN will explain the medical forms and procedures. Sixth grade students in Ms. Ahmed’s and Mr. Calvert’s classes will attend Outdoor Ed from Monday, April 30 to Wednesday, May 2.  Sixth grade Students in Mrs. Weiskopf’s classes will attend Outdoor Ed from Wednesday, May 2 to Friday, May 4. All students will attend Outdoor Ed at Summit Lake and experience an identical program. Parent and Guardian chaperones play a critical part in the success of our Outdoor Ed Program.  Please consider joining us for a marvelous learning adventure in the mountains of beautiful northern Maryland.  If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact Michael Calvert, Outdoor Education Program Coordinator by email at  Michael_Calvert@MCPSMD.org  

5th grade Parent Information Night

Please join the Hoover Middle School staff on January 23rd for their 5th grade Parent Information Night for all rising 6th grade families coming to Hoover next school year.  This event is an opportunity to meet Hoover staff, hear an overview of Hoover’s instruction program, and learn about course offerings, registration process, and articulation timelines for new students.  The event begins at 7:00PM in the Hoover cafeteria.  Current parents of 5th grade students with IEPs are invited to a brief meeting at 6:30PM in the media center with the special education resource teacher.  If you have any questions please contact Hoover Middle School at 301-968-3740.  Click here for flyer.
