Community Update on

A Shared Commitment to Student Safety

March 11, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Montgomery County Public Schools is committed to providing a safe environment for our students and staff as we transition to in-person learning. To ensure schools are safe, we must all do our part to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus. By selecting an in-person learning experience, you are agreeing to take key precautions and actions to keep schools safe.

For our students, this means:

  • Properly wearing a face covering/mask at school and on buses, as required by law
  • Physically distancing from others
  • Frequently washing and/or sanitizing hands
  • Participating in school-provided COVID-19 testing to proactively identify asymptomatic cases (information coming soon)
  • Accurately and honestly completing the weekly health attestation form
  • Completing daily temperature checks at home (A thermometer will be provided by MCPS to all families.)
  • Remaining at home and contacting the school immediately if showing any symptoms of COVID-19 or being in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19

For its part, MCPS will:

  • Provide and enforce the use of face coverings for all students and staff
  • Reinforce physical distancing
  • Provide hand sanitizer and frequent opportunities for hand-washing
  • Enhance building ventilation and filtration
  • Provide thermometers to all families returning to in-person instruction
  • Provide free COVID-19 testing to students and staff
  • Frequently clean buildings with a focus on high-touch surfaces
  • Ensure health staff are located in each school
  • Enhance water systems
  • Follow a robust contact tracing protocol

We ask that you join us in following these critical practices and safety measures so we can keep our schools safe and open for teaching and learning.

We look forward to welcoming you back into our school buildings.

Sincerely,

Montgomery County Public Schools
