Kindergarten Orientation

Where: Lois P. Rockwell Elementary School

Description:

Rockwell will host a Kindergarten Orientation Event on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 4-5 PM.  Invitations for this exciting event will be sent to all registered incoming kindergarten students.

Parents can register for kindergarten in different ways including online or by making an appointment in our main office.  Click on the link below for more information about necessary paperwork and the process for registering.

If you prefer to make an appointment to register your child in person at Rockwell, please plan to come to the main office at any of the days and times below.  When you come to the school, please bring documents listed below to fully register your child.

Important Documents Necessary for Kindergarten Registration

  • Birth Documents- Verification of Student’s Age
  • Identification of Person Completing Registration (Parent/Guardian)
  • Proof of Residency
  • Health Forms

Examples of Acceptable Verification Documentation 

Verification of Student's Age

Documents below are listed in order of preference. Official documents issued by governmental entities located in the U.S. should be used in place of documents issued by entities outside of the U.S. whenever possible.

  • Birth certificate
  • Passport
  • Physician's certificate
  • Baptismal or Church Certification
  • Hospital certificate
  • Parent's notarized affidavit (sworn notarized statement attesting to the accuracy of the date of birth)
  • Birth registration
  • Other legal or notarized identification

Identity of Person Enrolling Student and Relationship to Student

Person enrolling a student must present official parent/guardian photo identification and proof of relationship to the student. 

Examples of proof of parent/guardian identity that includes a photograph:

  • Driver's license
  • Passport
  • Other legal form of identification

Examples of proof of parent/guardian relationship to student:

  • Birth certificate of student which identifies the parents
  • Court order
  • Separation agreement or divorce decree
  • Other legal form of identification

Acceptable Proof of Residency in Montgomery County

  • Homeowners: A copy of your current property tax bill. A copy can be obtained from the Montgomery County Department of Finance at 240-777-0311 or at Montgomery County Department of Finance.
  • Renters: A copy of your current rental lease. If the original term of the lease is expired, a copy of the lease and a current utility bill.
  • Shared Housing Residents: If living in shared housing with a homeowner or renter who has a bona fide residence within an MCPS school area:
    • Shared housing with a homeowner:  A completed, signed, and notarized Shared Housing Disclosure (MCPS Form 335-74), a copy of the current property tax bill of the homeowner, and two other supporting documents to demonstrate that the parent/guardian or eligible student is living at the address. The supporting documents must be in the name of the parent/guardian at the address shown on the Shared Housing Disclosure Form (see below for supporting document examples).
    • Shared housing with a renter: A completed, signed, and notarized Shared Housing Disclosure (MCPS Form 335-74), a copy of the rental lease and two other supporting documents to demonstrate that the parent/guardian or eligible student is living at the address. If the original term of the rental lease is expired, a copy of the lease and a current utility bill is required. The supporting documents must be in the name of the parent/guardian at the address shown on the Shared Housing Disclosure Form (see below for supporting document examples). 
  • Examples of acceptable supporting documents include communication from the following types of entries:
    • Financial institutions (e.g., bank, insurance company, etc.)
    • Utility companies (e.g., phone, water, electric, gas, etc.)
    • Governmental (Federal, state, or local)
    • Medical organizations
    • Religious institutions
    • Nonprofit or community organizations

Physical Examinations and Immunizations  A physical examination is required for students entering Maryland public schools for the first time or transferring from a private school. The examination must be done within nine months before or six months after enrollment.

Acceptable Proof of Full Immunization Compliance

  • Maryland Immunization Certificate 896, or
  • Computer form generated by a physician or health clinic
