Blended Learning Courses

Overview

MCPS offers multiple online courses that each satisfy MCPS and state graduation requirements. The information below provides assistance to students who might have questions about taking an online course. Please contact the Student Online Learning office if you have questions or need additional information.

Available MCPS Courses (approved by MCPS and MSDE):

Registration Reminders for MCPS Online Courses:

  • MCPS online courses have limited enrollment.
  • Registration for MCPS online courses is handled on a first come-first serve basis.

Webinar Classes:

  • Webinar classes are mandatory. If a student cannot attend a particular webinar class, they should not sign up for that class section. Students who miss any of the webinar classes may be dropped from the course.
  • Students sign up for a webinar class time slot of their choosing offered during the specified dates and times. Specific dates and times for each section will be available on the Student Online Learning website prior to the start of registration and on the application forms that students complete.

Honors Health Education

  • Course code: HPE2042A/HPE2042B; 1.0 credit
  • Satisfies health education graduation requirement (Class of 2025 and beyond will need an additional 0.5 credits (Hon Health B) to fulfill graduation requirements).
  • For students in Grade 9 and higher. Students may register while in Grade 8, but they cannot take the course until after completing Grade 8.

Cost:

  • No cost to MCPS students

Dates of classes:

  • Summer (6 weeks): A choice among multiple summer sessions. The first summer session generally starts one week after school ends, and the last summer session ends about two weeks before the next school years starts (subject to change).
  • Fall (14 weeks): One session generally starting in mid-October and ending in early January. Note: No work during MCPS winter break.
  • Spring (14 weeks): One session generally starting in early February and ending in mid-May. Note: No work during MCPS spring break.

Dates of registration*:

  • Fall: First or second week of school
  • Spring: December
  • Summer: May

Foundations of Engineering and Technology

  • Course code: TEC2016A/TEC2016B; 1.0 credit
  • Satisfies technology education graduation requirement
  • For students in Grade 9 and higher. Students may register while in Grade 8, but they cannot take the course until after completing Grade 8.
  • Students may take the full course, only Semester A, or only Semester B. Must have completed Semester A before starting Semester B.
