Forensics Team

Forensics Club provides students with the opportunity for Oral Interpretation. This means that students interpret written literature for an audience by "performing" or "reciting" it in an original way.

Categories

  • Prose--This includes novel excerpts, short stories, essays, editorials, journals, magazine articles.
  • Poetry--Poems from any time period are acceptable.
  • Drama--Any dramatic monologue, dialogue or scene may be used.
  • Children's Literature--Stories for children ages 3 - 12 may be used.
  • Humorous--Anything can be used as long as it's funny.
  • Informative--Students research a topic, then teach from their own scripts.
  • Persuasive--Students write and give their own speeches using researched data.
  • Extemporaneous--Given a topic, the student must conduct research on the spot and give a speech.
  • Acting--A scene from a play is memorized and performed by a group.
  • Readers' Theatre--Group performance or interpretation of a scene using scripts.

Most interpretations run between 2 and 10 minutes. Written text must be present, but some portions are memorized. Students are allowed to compete in two categories at each meet.
