Welcome message from Principal Craig Jackson:
I am honored and humbled to serve the students, staff, and families of Woodlin and to continue the tradition of excellence that has been established by staff and community. I am confident that as a united and collaborative school community, we will continue to make a difference in each child's life.
Prior to joining Woodlin Elementary School, I served as principal intern of Cannon Road Elementary School in Silver Spring. Prior to that, I served as the assistant principal at Dr. Sally K. Ride Elementary School and assistant school administrator at Sligo Middle School. Of course, there is no greater experience than when I was a classroom teacher. I have had the pleasure of providing engaging instruction in secondary and elementary classrooms. These invaluable experiences have afforded me to opportunity to refine my skills as a leader and strengthen my core values as an educator. I believe in creating strong relationships with students, parents/guardians, and staff, and continually improving myself and those around me.
On a personal note, I am a husband and father. My wife's name is Renee. She has been a teacher for 20 years and currently serves as a special education teacher at John F. Kennedy High School. She often serves as my sounding board and reminds me to view decisions from the lens of a teacher. We have three children. I believe that every parent loves their child just as much as I love my three children. Perhaps some families are able to be very involved in their child's education, while others may not have that opportunity, but I believe it is my responsibility to ensure every child at Woodlin is cared for in a way that I expect for my own children.
As I serve Woodlin, I intend to honor various perspectives, form relationships built on trust, and inspire a culture of hope. This sense of unity will serve us well as we work together to meet the challenges of a new school year.
