Principal's Message

July 1, 2019

Hello Wheaton Woods Community,

I’m very excited to announce that the Montgomery County Board of Education has appointed me as principal of Wheaton Woods, beginning July 1, 2019. Though I’ve had personal conversations with many of you during the last few years, I realize that there is a lot that we still don’t know about each other. I am looking forward to strengthening our relationships, and I hope to learn more about each of you very soon.

I wanted to share a little about my background. I grew up as the only child of a single teenage mother in Wilmington, Delaware. My mother and I lived in my grandmother's house, along with my aunts and uncle and their children. My family was poor, but we emphasized love, respect, and education. The foundation set by my mother and grandmother placed me on a course for professional success and personal happiness. Now I emphasize those same values with my wife, Tracie, my son, Amir (age 19), and my daughter, Anya (age 15). I also emphasize these values with the students, staff, and parents of Wheaton Woods.

In addition to being an assistant principal here at Wheaton Woods, I have held a variety of positions in several school districts. I have been a team leader as a second grade teacher, a team leader as a fifth grade teacher, a coach of teachers in a single school as a staff development teacher, and a coach of teachers across the school district as a consulting teacher. I am ready for my first year as principal.

My personal and professional experiences have led me to believe that all students can achieve high levels of learning when they are taught by great teachers. All teachers can become great by using input from the curriculum, other teachers, students, and their families. Together, we will create that environment.

Thank you for allowing me to become a member of the Wheaton Woods family. I feel that we have grown a lot together since I arrived in 2016. I know I have. I look forward to continuing the journey with you in the coming years. Thank you.
