The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is one of four programs
developed by the International Baccalaureate Organization. It is a five-year
program designed for students in grades 6-10. The Middle Years Programme shares
common educational principles with the IB Primary Years Program and the IB
Diploma Program, including an aim to develop internationally-minded people who,
recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, to

The Middle Years Programme at WMHS
At Watkins Mill High School, all students enrolled in 9th
and 10th grade are automatically a part of the MYP: there is no
application required! As participants in the program, our students take classes
that are created with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program framework
in mind, which provides a focus on interdisciplinary learning, rigorous
academic standards, and connections with the international community. As a
result, students that choose to join our school’s IB Diploma Programme or IB
Career-related Programme for their 11th and 12th-grade
years will find that they have been adequately prepared for the challenge and
the expectations of those classes.
The MYP Framework
Approaches to learning (ATL) – students are shown how to develop their abilities
