Members of the Counseling Department at Silver Spring International Middle School work to help students be successful socially, emotionally and academically.

  • We work with students individually, in small groups and with entire classes of students.
  • We work with parents to help their children be more successful through consultations and conferences.
  • We provide teachers with support for their students by strategizing alternative approaches and facilitating educational management.

Course Bulletins Information

If you need to make a change to your child's courses please fill out the attached form and return it to the counseling department.

Course Change Request 2018-2019

The Counseling Office is open Monday through Friday,7:45 a.m - 3:30 p.m.

Please call 240-740-2760 to schedule an appointment to discuss any concerns related to your child. Fax: 301-650-6429

To register/enroll your child, please provide the following:

  • Proof of residency (Copy of Current lease or Property Tax Bill)
  • Copy of child's birth certificate
  • Copy of child's immunization records
  • Photo of parent ID
  • Custody papers, if applicable
  • Name and contact information of previous school

School Transfer Packet should include these documents:

  • Copy of last report card
  • Withdrawal/clearance form
  • Health/immunization records
  • Copy of Indivizualized Education Plan (IEP) if student receives special education services
  • Copy of 504 Plan, if applicable
  • Name and contact information of previous school


Counseling Announcements

Counselors will be working with students using the Naviance Student College and Career exploration tool.  Read more about it in the attached letter. (English/Spanish)

8th Grade High School Choice

High School Options Fairs for 8th Grade Parents and Students:

  • NEC at Paint Branch High School on 9/26/18 from 6:30-9pm
  • DCC at Einstein High School on 10/1/18 from 6:30-9pm  

The High School Choice Options Fairs will be held for 8th Grade parents and students. 
Identical information about the DCC Choice process, academy programs, and high school application-only programs will be presented at both Options Fairs.  DCC high school special education program information will be presented at the Options Fair on 10/1/18 only.  (NEC high school special education information will be presented on 9/26/18).  DCC presentations will be available in English and Spanish.  Child care will be available free of charge for children 3 and over.

Open Houses will be held in October for each of the high schools.  Please check the SSIMS main webpage for announcements regarding the Open House dates and times at each high school.
