Dear Families, Staff and Friends,
Seems that there are fewer days between June and August than the rest of the year. I am always surprised that summer is over and I didn't do all that I wanted.
None the less, we are looking forward to the return of children to the school house. It is not the same without the laugher of children and empty halls.
This year we will not be sending out postcards from your child's teacher. Instead, we will have lists posted at the Open House when you visit us on Aug. 31st at 2:30 p.m. Please do not call the school and ask for that information.
The Open House is for all students and parents.
Parents of kindergarten students will have a Welcome To School Night on Aug. 30th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. This is for parents only. Grades 1-5 will have Back to School Night on Thursday, Sept. 13th. Grades 3-5 will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Grades 1-2 will meet from 7:30-8:30 p.m.
On the first day of school, all students will be escorted to specific locations to assemble with their class and their teacher. Kindergarten students will meet at the front of the school at the car circle. Teachers will have a sign so classes can be easily located. Please do not park in the car circle at any time, but especially on the first day.
You will find all of the information that you need on our website. There is a link for bus routes for all students. Also you will find on our website and attached to this email (See below) a label that your child is to wear the first day of school. Please make sure all of the information listed on the label is complete. This is the only way we have the transportation information for your child coming to and from school.
This year MCPS has set up the Parent Portal. This is an electronic way that you can access information connected to your child and their classroom. After September 1st, you will have access to the Parent Portal. Go to:

There are some staffing changes this year and we have some exciting additions to our wonderful crew. A few teachers changed grade levels. Ms. Ford has moved to 4th grade, Ms. White has moved to 3rd grade and Ms. Marino has moved to 5th grade. Ms. Claire Swenson, a veteran teacher, will be joining our 4th grade team. Ms. Crystal Brooking, another veteran teacher, will be joining our 5th grade team. Ms. Tamea Stover is our new attendance secretary, replacing Ms. Cascio who was offered a position closer to home. Ms. Kristen Scott will serve our primary students in our Asperger's program. Our new part time staff include Ms. Jennifer Ott, Reading Initiative, and Ms. Christine Cassagnau, Art. Ms. Keonna Smith is a new lunch/recess paraeducator. We have a lunch/recess and para educator position available, if you know of anyone who might be interested. There are benefits with this position.
This is a lot to read. You are almost at the end. The exciting news is that the county will begin the construction of our new recess field immediately. We hope that it will be completed by early November. A committee of parents and staff met with the MCPS facilities and selected wonderful equipment to best serve the multiple needs of our students. This will mean that our recess periods will be moved to the lower tennis court during construction. We will be working with the staff and recess committee to support our students during this transition time to our new field. We have waited for this upgrade for many years.
