2019 College Readiness Summer Workshops @ RMHS  

Below is a list of workshops and mock tests that all RMHS and Rockville HS students are invited to attend.  Please email your rsvp to Ms. Hull at Mary_F_Hull@mcpsmd.org to indicate which workshop(s) you want to reserve your seat.  For the mock tests, please register at the link provided.  Questions?  Please let me know!  If you are not able to attend a workshop here, please check the websites of other high schools.  MCPS students are invited to attend any of these sessions!  Looking forward to seeing you this summer.

 

University of Maryland and your Coalition Application Account – Wednesday, July 17th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the career center - Did you know the University of Maryland-College Park (UMCP) uses the Coalition Application?  What does that mean for your application and recommendation letters?  Come hear Ryan Clear, our admissions representative from UMCP, talk about the application process and how using the Coalition Application will impact the process for UMCP.  Do you have other questions about UMCP?  This is your chance to get them answered! (Intended audience – Seniors)

 

Highly Selective College Admissions – Tuesday, July 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the career center - Jordan Kanarek, Director, Collegewise, will offer a workshop on “Highly Selective College Admissions.”  How do students who get accepted to the Ivy Leagues and the rest of the nation’s most selective colleges set themselves apart from the rest of the applicant pool?  You will learn strategies and more helpful information at this workshop.  Learn more about Collegewise at https://collegewise.com/  (Intended audience – all grade levels)

 

Mock SAT offered by Revolution Prep – Thursday, July 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Rocket Café – Please register for this test at https://www.revolutionprep.com/partners/1395/  Report to the RMHS Café about 8:50 a.m. and bring your fully charged phone, pencils and your graphing calculator.  This is a mock test (unofficial) so accommodations will not be given at this exam.  Students can opt to use the at home test and parents can monitor the extended time.  Please follow instructions on the link to sign up for the take home exam if necessary.  (Intended audience – Juniors & Seniors)

 

Writing your College Essay – Tuesday, July 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the RMHS Cafe – Our own Mrs. Nancy Shay will run a college essay writing workshop two times so sign up for the session that best fits your schedule (same presentation given twice).  Remember, once you complete a draft of your essay, Mrs. Shay will review your essay!  (Intended audience – Seniors)

Common Application and Naviance Student accounts – Wednesday, July 31 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the career center – Ms. Grace Franceschelli from the University of Cincinnati will be our presenter at this workshop.  During this session, you will learn about and set up your Common Application account, and hear how your Naviance Student account and your Common Application account are vital to your college application process.  How do you request Letters of Recommendation using your Naviance Student?  How do you request transcripts for your college applications?  Come to this session to get your questions answered!  (Intended audience – Seniors)

 

Financial Aid and Scholarships including ROTC Scholarships – Thursday, August 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the career center – Terry McCall, Army ROTC at the University of Maryland, will present information on the ROTC program and scholarships available through ROTC.  Then we will hear from Mrs. Cynthia Hammond-David, author and financial aid expertShe will talk about the FAFSA, grants, and more scholarships!  (Intended audience – Juniors & Seniors)  

 

The College Interview – Tuesday, August 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the career center – Ms. Joy Scalabrin, Admissions Counselor at Johns Hopkins University, will give a presentation on the college interview (which can also translate to employment interviews).  What are the essential components that make a successful interview?  How can you best prepare for an interview?  Come hear this presentation and feel more confident when you interview for colleges in the fall.  (Intended audience – Seniors)

Summer Math Prep Courses

The Math Department of Richard Montgomery High School is offering Summer Prep courses for the following classes:

Honors/On-Level Geometry

Honors/On-Level Algebra 2

Honors/On-Level Pre-Calculus

The purpose of these prep courses is to review and enhance pre-requisite skills that students need in order to be successful in mastering the concepts of their next math course, and for students to get help on any summer packet assignments. 

There will be two sessions from which to choose. 

Session 1 will be held the week of July 8 – July 12

Session 2 will be held July 22 – July 26 

Each session will run from 9:00 to 12:00. The cost is $175. If you would like to have your child participate, please follow the steps below to register and submit payment for the appropriate session:
