Career Awareness

A career is all the productive work, paid and unpaid, performed throughout a person's lifetime. Career Education provides students with opportunities to learn about their interests, to become aware and appreciate a range of careers, and to develop decision-making, job-seeking, and job-keeping skills. Explore the links below to help make informed career choices.

CX Online/Career Planning 

Students find this site exciting and informative with fun articles about careers, recreation, education and skills. In Zones, hundreds of occupations are arranged by career cluster. Career Finder is a quick and easy self-assessment of interests and skills. Colorful graphics compare student's self-ratings of skills and interest to suggested occupations. Career Research Tool guides students through skills, values, interest and personailty inventories to generate career research leads. The sight license for CX Online allows for career exploration to be accessed both at school and at home on the Internet. Each suggested career can be explored in detail, and there are web links to professional associations, colleges that offer the required courses, and additional related articles. Ask the Career Center Coordinator for a username and password

Choices/College Selection 
The Choices program allows students to investigate over 6,000 two- and four-year colleges to develop an individualized list of colleges and universities according to personally selected criteria, such as location, size, majors, athletic and other special programs, and financial aid availability. There are also direct links to the web pages for numerous colleges and universities listed and to online applications where these are available. Vocational/ technical schools can also be explored. Financial aid applications and scholarsihps available as well. This program is available on the RMHS network. Students and parents are encouraged to make and appointment with Ms. Hull, Colege Career Coordinator, to do this college search. The internet version, Choices Planner, may be accessed at  http://www.access.bridges.com using the same user name and password as for CX Online

Naviance (formerly called Tcci)
An internet-based program designed to help counseling departments, students and parents navigate through the college application process. The Family Connection component allows students to do college searches, compare institutions, make contact with colleges in which they are interested and view scattergram data showing acceptance statistics of previous graduating classes of their own high school. Students can also use Naviance to build a resume, summarize post-secondary goals, and keep track of their college and scholarship applications. Students can obtain the web address for Naviance and their individual registration codes from their counselors or Ms. Hull.

A free, online career show that connects teens with advice from prominent industry leaders through video interviews

Excellent web site for students, parents and career advisors offering tools for career exploration

The Career Key  
Professional career test that measures skills, abilities, values, interests and personality.
Identify promising jobs and get accurate information about them.
