Redland Middle School's "Redland Respect Expectations"

What Is Our Redland Respect Expectations System

Redland Middle School has developed and implemented a process for creating safer and more effective school environment.  It is a systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing research-based, school wide, and classroom discipline systems.  Our process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students.  At Redland Middle School our approach provides systems for schools to design, implement, and evaluate effective school-wide, classroom, non-classroom, and student specific discipline plans.  We focus on the implementation of school-wide procedures and processes intended for:

  • ALL students, ALL staff and in ALL settings
  • Non-classroom settings within the school environment
  • Individual classrooms and teachers
  • Individual student supports for the estimated 3-7% of students who present the most challenging behaviors.

Our approach is a team-based process of a systemic approach to problem solving, planning, and evaluation.  It is an approach of creating an environment in which school-based teams of educators are trained:

  • Systems change
  • Effective behavior management principles and practices;
  • Applications of research-validated instruction and management practices.

How is Redland Respect Implemented at Redland Middle School

Redland's process is built around our Circle of Respect.   We stress Respecting Self, Respecting Others, and Respecting School at Redland Middle School.

  • As a school, Redland created a school-wide behavioral expectations matrix based on our Circle of Respect. This matrix (click here to view) outlines what Respect looks like at Redland.
  • Students are recognized for demonstrating respect at Redland through our BULLDOG BUCKS program.
  • Bulldog Bucks are tickets students will receive from staff members for demonstrating Respect. (They get Bulldog Bucks worth 1 dollar from staff, 2 dollars from substitutes, and 3 dollars from bus drivers)
  • Students can redeem their Bulldog Bucks in the classroom, at the Dog Pound, or at the Eighth Grade Cafe. (More information will follow regarding what rewards can be earned)

How Can Parents Support Our Redland Respect Expectations

Our climate team is always looking for support. Here are the ways you can support us at Redland:

  • If you know of a local business that is willing to sponsor our program (monetary or other donations), please let us know.
  • We are also accepting donations for our new DOG POUND Store. We are identifying items that students would be interested in working for, and we will share that list as soon as possible.
  • Have some time? We are looking for volunteers to help run the Dog Pound the first Friday of each month during all three lunches.  Please email Patty Sullivan at pmsknit@gmail.com and let her know your interest/availability.

Gold Award

Redland once again was honored in achieving the "Gold Award" for our Redland Respect program.  This our 4th year earning Gold. Gold is awarded to school's demonstrating sustainability for the systems, practices, and data utilization.  Schools need to demonstrate that their implementation of the program has had positive effects on both their discipline and achievement data for the past two years.
