Principal Intern

Ms. April Longest

Dear Oak View Community,

I am honored and excited to serve the students, families, and staff of Oak View Elementary School as Principal Intern. I am fortunate to work with a community of parents and staff who place student safety and learning at the forefront of everything we do. I look forward to working with Mr. Cline and staff to continue building relationships and establishing high expectations that support students as they work to realize their fullest potential – academically, emotionally, and socially. As our school motto states, “We Believe All Can Achieve!” In addition, spend any time with me and you’ll learn that my personal mantra is “Time is Short and Students Come First.”

I was born here in Montgomery County and attended MCPS for all but my Kindergarten year. As a high school Senior, I discovered my passion for teaching, interning for an amazing Kindergarten teacher at Lakewood Elementary who showed me how rewarding a career as an educator could be. I earned an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from High Point University. After graduation, I returned home to teach 2nd grade and Kindergarten in local area private schools.

After taking time to raise a family, I returned to MCPS and have taught third and fourth grades. I have extensive experience teaching and leading many exceptional students, including the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Center for Enriched Studies, Gifted-Talented/Learning Disabled, and the Emotional Disability program. Furthering my lifelong commitment to learning, in 2015 I earned a Master’s in Education Administration and Supervision from Hood College. The last two years, I was fortunate to serve as the Assistant Principal at Lucy V. Barnsley Elementary School in Rockville.

My husband, Robert,  and I have five children: Katrina, Hayden, Sierra, Kelsey, and Tabitha. Our oldest graduated from college and is an officer in the United States military and is engaged to Paul Kim a Marine First Lieutenant.  We have two in college and two still at home. We reside in Rockville, Maryland. As a family, we love spending time at the beach and cheering loudly for our Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals! #ALLCAPS

I look forward to working with the Oak View community to make it a successful year for all!

Warmest regards,

April Longest
