Today in women’s history.  Harriet Beecher Stowe was an American writer who was against slavery and one of the most influential women of the 19th century. Although she wrote dozens of books, essays and articles during her lifetime, she was best known for her novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin which told the story of a slave.  Because of the book, Stowe became an overnight success and went on tour in the United States and Britain to promote the book and speak about her abolitionist views.  At the time, it was considered inappropriate for women to speak publicly to large audiences of men. So instead, her husband or brother spoke for her.

Today’s weather will be mostly very heavy rain, with a flood watch in effect until midnight.  Temperatures will reach the low 50s.

Please remember to wish the following students a happy birthday:

Happy Birthday!!
