- Awarded grants from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Montgomery County Education Foundation, Maryland State Department of Education, Reading is Fundamental, Southland Corporation, The Washington Post, and Hewlett Packard to support innovative programs designed by our staff. - Awarded a $10,000 grant developed jointly by the Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education, Montgomery County Public Schools , Kemp Mill Elementary School , AmeriCorps Project CHANGE, and Starbucks. It will be used to support a literacy project at the school called MC-Reads. The project is designed to recruit and place volunteers who will reinforce the basic literacy skills of Kemp Mill students in Kindergarten through Grade 3, many of whom do not speak English fluently or are disadvantaged by poverty.
