Principal's Page
I am Carrie Zimmerman and I
am honored to be the Principal of Greenwood Elementary School. The great work the staff and students have
done in reading, writing and math excite me as I join this fantastic community,
and I am eager to continue this journey of excellence.
I have held a variety of
positions throughout my tenure with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
over the past 18 years. I began as a
fifth grade classroom teacher and team leader at Beall Elementary School and Ronald
McNair Elementary School. As I completed
my Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Bowie State University, I
began working with teachers more closely as the Staff Development Teacher at
Fox Chapel Elementary School. After five
years in that role, I was offered an Instructional Specialist position with the
Science Technology and Engineering curriculum team with MCPS, where I
collaborated with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, overseeing a grant where
I created professional development opportunities in Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) specifically designed for elementary
teachers. In 2015, following the
completion of my Administration and Supervision certificate from Hood College,
I became the Assistant Principal at Sequoyah Elementary School.
Although my time in MCPS has afforded numerous
opportunities for me to lead and change the trajectory of student achievement,
my greatest achievement comes not professionally, but personally. I have been the wife to an amazing husband
for the past 13 years and mother to four beautiful children: Kelly (10), Timmy
(9), Chris (7), and Cassie (5). It is
often noticed that I treat the children I work with like my own. I would want nothing less than the best for
my personal children, and therefore, I will do the same for your children.

As I get to know your
families, you will also get to know mine.
We are a busy family that enjoys the outdoors, whether it is a local
festival or visiting one of our favorite places, Hershey Park, we are out and
about most weekends. Another favorite
place of ours is the local library.
There are so many rich programs to get involved in all year long,
including STEM labs, reading with animals, and guest speakers, as well as
finding that just right book. I am
pretty sure the students at Greenwood may also be fans like my children of the
Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Captain Underpants series and the Fudge series by
Judy Bloom. This past year, my boys
introduced me to the world of comics and Sports Illustrated for Kids magazine
as a way to spend time reading.
Over the course of the
school year, I will spend a lot of time getting to know your children, their
learning styles and their interests. I
look forward to celebrating their successes, no matter how big or small. I will encourage them to put forth their
finest effort, striving to be the best version of themselves because they are a
valued member of this community.
I am grateful to bring all
that I have experienced and learned with me to the Greenwood community. I am excited to get to know you and your
children, because I am here for you.
Sincerely,
Carrie L. Zimmerman
