The Library Media Program strives to create a collaborative learning environment that operates as the hub of Bradley Hills. We support the curriculum, promote reading and the appreciation of literature as well as teaching the information literacy skills neccessary to be responisble and effective users of ideas and information thus empowering all stakeholders in our school community to be enthusiastic and confident lifelong learners.
Classes visit the media center on bi-weekly schedule for grades k-3 and every 3 weeks for grades 4 and 5 and are in Guidance when not in the media center.
Students are able to check out books on their scheduled day as well as during Open Checkout Hours from 8:45-9:20.
Students in kindergarten are allowed one book at a time, students in 1st and 2nd grade are allowed to check out 2 at a time and students in 3rd-5th grades are allowed to check out 3 books at a time.
You can explore Destiny which is our online book catalog. You can log in with your child's username and password to see what books they have checked out as well as to create a wishlist of books with your child. S/he can bring in their wishlist and we will help them find the books.
Ms. Schwartz has also created a livebinder titled Making Technology Educational @ Home.
Common Sense Media:
Grades K-5 will be receiving instruction from Ms. Schwartz on the topic of Digital Citizenship.
We have created a wishlist of books and other materials that we would like to purchase throughout the school year. The list has been created with great thought by Ms. Schwartz and Ms. Newman. It includes requests made by students, teachers and parents, new books, suggestions from social media and journals, and replacing of books that have been well loved.
Maryland Black Eyed Susan Program
The BES is a children's choice award for the state of Maryland. The award honors outstanding picture books, chapter books, and graphic novels. Each year 15 picture books. 10 chapter books, and 10 graphic novels are nominated for the award and students in the state of Maryland vote for the winning books in each category. Students receive information on this award in the Fall and are encouraged to read the books throughout the year so we can vote in April. Book trailers can be found on the website and information sheets that students can use to track their thoughts - Picture Books, Chapter Book, and Graphic Novels.
Students will cast their vote and be entered into a raffle for a pizza party for 4 of their friends. We will have one winner from each category- picture, chapter, and graphic novel. Students will vote by turning in their comment sheets with their final choice circled.
