Three Middle Schools Receive Maryland Green Schools Award (corrected)

May 15, 2019

This press release is being resent with a corrected headline.

Redland, Roberto Clemente and Rosa Parks middle schools have been awarded the 2019 Maryland Green Schools Award.

The program encourages educational opportunities for prekindergarten-12 schools that increase awareness and understanding of environmental relationships that impact public health and the local community. Maryland Green Schools demonstrate a continuous effort to integrate sustainable environmental practices, environmental education curriculum, professional development and community engagement into the culture of their schools. This certification signifies that these schools have made a commitment to developing stewards of the earth and reducing environmental impact.

There are 86 MCPS schools participating in the Green Schools program. The program is aligned with Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement 2014 goals and supports Maryland State Department of Education graduation requirements and standards.

The Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education will hold an award celebration to honor the schools at its 10th Annual Maryland Green School Youth Summit on May 30 at Sandy Point State Park.
