Delegation of Officials from Greenville, South Carolina to View Innovative Educational Programs as Part of Inter-Community Visit
The delegation's visit to MCPS, which will take place on Monday, May 3, was arranged at the request of the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce, who selected MCPS "to learn from your experience and success in education reform."
The group is scheduled to begin the day with a tour of Montgomery Blair High School and its magnet program for mathematics, science and computer science.
Superintendent of Schools Paul L. Vance will officially welcome the delegation at Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive in Rockville, with an overview of the school system. Former Deputy Superintendent Katheryn Gemberling will present data about student achievement and discuss their implications. After a keynote luncheon address by June Streckfus, executive director of the Maryland Business Roundtable, the group will participate in a discussion with education officials and representatives from the Montgomery County business community. Smaller group discussions on technology, continuous improvement, and the Maryland School Performance Program will conclude the day's official activities.
The delegation will also visit Baltimore to learn about strategic community and business development projects and will meet with federal officials in Washington, D.C.
