MCPS Graduates Earn Nearly $240 Million in Scholarships
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Class of 2012 has earned $238.5 million in college scholarships, to date. The total value of scholarships earned is expected to grow over the next few weeks as final data are gathered.
“The amount of scholarship money earned is another indication of how our students are achieving at the highest levels,” said Superintendent of Schools, Joshua P. Starr. “This success is a testament to their hard work, the support of their families, and the dedication of the MCPS staff.”
Members of the Class of 2012 received several prestigious scholarships and awards for their outstanding academic performance and community involvement including the 2012 U.S. Presidential Scholar Award; the Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholarship; the National Carson Scholars Fund Scholarship and the National Merit Scholarship.
Among the accomplishments of the Class of 2012 are:
- 141 National Merit Finalists
- 20 National Hispanic Recognition Finalists
- 19 National Achievement Finalists
-169 Ivy League school acceptances
- The highest percentage of MCPS students graduating with the meritorious service honor—18 percent. This honor is for students who have documented 260 or more student service learning hours. Overall, the Class of 2012 volunteered more than 1.65 million hours.
