MCPS Partners with Businesses to Collect Supplies for Students in Need

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will collect new school supplies and backpacks at business locations around the county this month.

The school supplies and backpacks will be given to MCPS students in need during the school system’s fourth annual Back-to-School Fair on Saturday, Aug. 27.
 
Community members who wish to donate supplies can drop them off at several businesses and other locations starting Wednesday, Aug. 10:
 
AUGUST 10-17, WHOLE FOODS MARKET:
Items can be dropped off in collection boxes at one of five locations in Montgomery County. On Wednesday, Aug. 17, follow Whole Foods on Twitter @WFM_MoCo and like them on Facebook for chances to win prizes and find out which store collects the most supplies.

AUGUST 11-12, CHIK-FIL-A at WESTFIELD MONTGOMERY MALL: Items may be dropped off at the Montgomery Mall location. Donors who contribute a backpack will receive a free meal; donors who bring a new school supply will receive a free entree.

AUGUST 14-20, WESTFIELD MONTGOMERY MALL:  Items can be dropped off at the concierge desk during mall hours. MCPS staff will be available at an “Ask MCPS” event at Montgomery Mall on Tuesday, Aug. 16
from noon-8 p.m., where they will collect donated supplies and answer questions about the school system and Back-to-School Fair. Community members who donate supplies during this period will receive a coupon for a free kid’s meal at California Pizza Kitchen and two free movie tickets to the mall theater. On Monday, Aug. 15 and Tuesday, Aug. 16, bring a Back-to-School Fair flyer to the California Pizza Kitchen and they will donate 20 percent of the meal total to help support the annual event.

AUGUST 14-20, WESTFIELD WHEATON MALL: Items can be dropped off at the management office and concierge desk during mall hours. MCPS staff will be available at an “Ask MCPS” event at Wheaton Mall on Friday, Aug. 19 from noon-8 p.m., to collect supplies and answer questions about the school system and the Back-to-School Fair. Several participating Westfield Wheaton retailers will provide back-to-school discounts. Wheaton Mall will accept donated supplies throughout the month of August.

School supplies and backpacks also can be dropped off through Thursday, Aug. 25, at the MCPS Department of Family and Community Partnerships, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, in Room 50. (use the West Entrance) The Back-to-School Fair website has a list of the most needed supplies.
