Board Seeks Student Applicants for Family Life Advisory Committee

March 24, 2010
The Montgomery County Board of Education is seeking two public high school students to serve on its Family Life and Human Development Advisory Committee. The committee serves in an advisory capacity to consult with professional educators within the school system in the course of their developing, implementing, and evaluating the family life and human development program.

Student appointments are for one year (July through June), and committee members serve without compensation. Unless exempted by the Board, no member shall serve for more than two consecutive terms. The committee generally meets once every other month during the evening and may meet more frequently if needed.

The Board of Education makes every effort to appoint advisory committees in which the membership is balanced by geographic area, race, ethnicity, gender, and range of viewpoints, but the final selection of all members will be at the discretion of the Board. All interested high school students are encouraged to apply. All applicants must be bona fide residents of Montgomery County and be a student at a Montgomery County Public Schools high school.

Applications must be received by close of business on Monday, May 10, 2010, for appointment to be made by the Board of Education at its meeting on June 8, 2010. (Applicants are not required to attend this meeting.)

To obtain a committee application, contact Becky Gibson by telephone at 301-279-3617 or email her at Becky_Gibson@mcpsmd.org.
