MCPS Students Break Advanced Placement Participation and Achievement Records

December 4 News Conference Will Feature Success Stories of AP Students and Teachers to Highlight 5 years of Steady Growth in AP Participation and Performance

A news conference will be held to announce new Advanced Placement (AP) participation and performance records in 2007 for students in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). Record levels of success by middle school students in higher level math courses also will be announced. The event will take place at noon on Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Col. Zadok Magruder High School, 5939 Muncaster Mill Road in Rockville.

The AP data clearly reveal continued progress for students in all subgroups, and once again MCPS students are significantly outperforming students across Maryland and the nation. The performance of African American students in MCPS continues to be particularly impressive when measured against the performance of African Americans across the state and nation.

Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, Board of Education President Nancy Navarro, AP students, and teachers are among the participants in the news conference. Also expected to participate are Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, County Council Vice President Michael Knapp, and members of the Maryland Delegation.
