New Programs, Facilities for 2007–2008 School Year


School Year Opens with New Elementary School, Phase I of Middle School Reform

Join Superintendent Jerry D. Weast, members of the Board of Education, and other officials on the opening day of school, August 27, at 10 a.m. at the modernized Parkland Magnet Middle School. The press event will focus on new programs and facilities for the 2007–2008 school year.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) begins the school year on August 27 with 200 schools, 137,000-plus students, and more than 11,000 teachers—about 800 of them new to MCPS.

A new elementary school, full-day Head Start at 10 Title I schools, and implementation of middle school reform in five Phase I schools highlight the start of school this year. Changes in middle schools include accelerating curriculum, improving leadership structure of the schools, and introducing new technology.
